What Is Solar ATAP?
ATAP (Net Energy Metering for Self‑Consumption with Excess Energy Management) is a solar programme introduced in Malaysia that allows building owners to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on their rooftops.
Under the ATAP scheme, the electricity generated from solar panels is first used to power your home or business. Any excess energy produced will be managed under the programme mechanism to maximize solar usage and long‑term savings.
Solar ATAP enables you to reduce electricity bills, optimize unused rooftop space, and transition toward cleaner, renewable energy with government‑supported guidelines.
With Solar ATAP, you can:
✓ Reduce monthly electricity costs
✓ Make productive use of rooftop space
✓ Enjoy sustainable and clean energy
✓ Increase long‑term property value
How Solar ATAP Works
Why Choose Solar ATAP?
✓ Lower electricity bills through self‑consumption
✓ Energy credits for surplus exports (programme retains core NEM principle of export-to-grid with updates)
✓ Optimise rooftop space with capacity sizing up to 100% of Maximum Demand (MD)
✓ 10‑year programme tenure for credits
✓ Government‑backed, administered by SEDA
Who Is Eligible?
- Applicant must not already be registered under SelCo or NEM
- Multi‑tenant sub‑meter accounts and certain generator setups (e.g., co‑generation/back‑feed) are not eligible
- Domestic applicants must undergo a Connection Assessment Study (CAS) during the supply application stage
